News & Updates

May 2021

We can see the light at the end of the tunnel! Slowly but surely, it’s happening!

Hi everyone! We wanted to update you on what’s going on with us since we last touched base in February.

First of all, 64% of our debut album, “Solve For X” has been mastered! We’re just putting the finishing touches on the last songs and then it’s off for mastering. Once that’s done, we will be releasing it digitally AND in physical CD versions. We can’t begin to express how excited we are about this! We already have songs in the works for our second album, but let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves! :-)

The other big news is that we have booked our first post-COVID gig! We hope you’ll join us August 28th at Smith’s Olde Bar (1578 Piedmont Ave NE, Atlanta, GA) as we and our special guest and dear friend, Cathleen Thomas, will be bringing you a GREAT night of music!

Though the pandemic continues to put the kibosh on us performing live for you (for now) , we’ve been keeping busy in other ways. With the help of Jazz Jennings and her mom Jeanette, the uber-talented Ryan Cassata, and lots of YOU, we made a new video for the title track from our debut album, “Solve For X”. If, somehow, you missed it, check it out here: https://youtu.be/PAkT9Tk32J4.

Ryan Cassata has been super supportive of us and he even added us to his Spotify Favorites List! If you’re not familiar with Ryan’s music, please do check it out at: http://www.ryancassata.com/. It would be a great honor for us to open for Ryan sometime. Hopefully, that will happen!

We were also featured on the recent National Center for Transgender Equality 2021 awards pre-show. They were kind enough to play the videos for both “Solve For X” and “What’s My Agenda?” and we’re very grateful to them for their support as well.

All of us in Exquisite Gender want to encourage all of you to get vaccinated! It’s the quickest way we’re going to get back to a semblance of normalcy. We’re all fully vaccinated and hope that you will be, too, if you’re not already. This pandemic is not over and we should all still take precautions to stay safe.

We wish you all peace, health, happiness, and rock and roll! See you August 28th for our CD release party and a night of great music! Stay safe!

February 2021

Happy 2021! Let us start off by welcoming anyone who’s recently found out about us. Please remember to follow us on Facebook (@equisitegender), Twitter (@ExquisiteGender), Instagram (@exquisite_gender_band), and please subscribe to our YouTube channel. www.youtube.com/c/exquisitegender. JoAnn recently posted a picture video for our song “Barsana Morn” with remastered audio!

We don’t need to tell you how badly 2020 sucked, but there was one very bright spot...we started writing original music! Many of you have probably heard some of the tracks and/or seen the videos we did for a few of the songs, but even more exciting is that we hope to release our first full album of songs late spring or early summer.

The songs are all written, we’re just finishing up some odds and ends and then they’ll go out to our producer, Bob Bingham, from the band IceHouse and who did Shanti’s solo album “It’s About Time!”. He’s been great to work with and really helps us make the songs the best they can be.

We’re absolutely chomping at the bit to play these songs for you live!! If all goes as planned with the vaccination roll-out, we think it’s realistic to think that we could be getting back to some semblance of normalcy by late summer or early fall. One thing we can promise you is that we’ll be ready to hit the ground rocking! For all of you Hedwig fans, don’t fret. We’ll still be doing songs from that amazing soundtrack as well as a couple of covers that we particularly love!

We hope that you’re all staying safe and healthy. This pandemic WILL end and Exquisite Gender WILL be ready to play for you!

We’ll keep you posted on the progress of our first album!

Peace, love, health, and rock & roll to you all!

April 2020

Our former lead singer, Synn, is now doing what he loves to do best: heavy metal! Our parting of ways was perfectly amicable and we are happy to have had Synn lead the band in our first incarnation. There will be more images to come as our newest incarnation continues to make videos and (eventually) play gigs.

We are looking forward to the time when we can play live. In this time of the global COVID-19 pandemic, we hope everyone is staying safe and lowering their risk.

In the meantime, we are writing original songs remotely, and practicing individually so we will be ready to rock when the time comes to play again. Our new bass player, Shanti, is also handling the bulk of the lead vocals. Bucky, rhythm guitar and background vocals, shares some of the lead vocal duties.

JoAnn continues to fiddle with her guitar synth, surprising us with the coolest of new sounds. As you know, JoAnn is a super rad guitar player, and her solos are always rippin’. She leaves nothing on the table each time.

Mandi, our drummer and band leader, is always honing our rock und roll covers, our Hedwig set, and now writing parts to our originals. We can depend on Mandi to lock in with Shanti to create the rockin-est beats possible.

Bucky’s rhythm guitar playing rounds out the rhythm section, providing a solid groove for JoAnn’s fills and solos. Bucky brings the singular experience of playing Yitzhak in the play Hedwig and the Angry Inch three times: twice in two different productions at Atlanta’s theater Actor’s Express, and once in Louisville under the direction of Sean Daniels at the Actors Theatre of Louisville. His experience adds to the fun with EG’s Hedwig set.
